What Most Las Vegas Window Treatment Companies Actually Offer for Warranty

What Most Las Vegas Window Treatment Companies Actually Offer for Warranty.

If you're shopping for Las Vegas blinds, shutters, or shades, the warranty is often confusing. One company says "Lifetime," another says "5-Year," another says "Limited Lifetime." They sound similar, but they are not.

Here is what most companies in the Las Vegas market are actually offering right now, broken down by product and what the fine print usually means.

1. The Standard Product Warranty: "Limited Lifetime"

This is the most common warranty you will see for Las Vegas faux-wood blinds, composite shutters, roller shades, cellular shades, and woven wood shades.

What it usually covers:

- Warping, cracking, or manufacturing defects in materials

- Failure of cords, ladders, or internal mechanisms under normal use

- Louvers or slats that break without abuse

- Fabric that delaminates or separates

What "Limited Lifetime" actually means:

It does NOT mean your lifetime. In this industry, it means the lifetime of the original purchaser in the original home. If you sell your house, the warranty usually does not transfer. If you move and take the blinds with you, it is void.

It also does NOT cover:

- Accidental damage, pets, kids, or cleaning chemicals

- Normal fading from the intense Las Vegas sun (most warranties exclude "normal fading and discoloration" - a big deal here)

- Damage from high humidity, like in bathrooms without proper ventilation

- Mis-measurement if you measured yourself

Typical length in practice: Even though it says lifetime, most companies will proactively cover parts for 5-10 years, then switch to offering replacement parts at cost after that.

2. The Real Wood vs. Faux-Wood Difference

This is where warranties split hard in Las Vegas:

- Faux-wood and composite shutters / blinds: Usually get the full limited lifetime warranty because they are built for heat. They are moisture and heat resistant.

- Real wood shutters / blinds: Most companies only offer 1 to 3 years on real wood in Las Vegas, and often with an explicit exclusion for warping, cracking, or fading due to direct sun and heat. Our climate is too harsh for natural wood over large west-facing windows. If a company offers a lifetime warranty on real wood here, read the exclusions very carefully.

3. Motors and Automation: The Separate Warranty

Motorized blinds in Las Vegas are now 30-40% of sales. The motor has its own warranty, separate from the shade.

What most companies offer:

- Battery motors: 3 to 5 years

- Hard-wired motors: 5 years

- Remote controls, chargers, and power supplies: 1 to 3 years

Motors are the most likely thing to fail, so ask specifically: Does the warranty cover the motor and the labor to replace it, or just the motor itself?

4. Installation / Labor Warranty: 1 to 3 Years

This is the one people forget to ask about. Product warranty and labor warranty are different. Most blinds las Vegas companies will let you know but you must ask for details.

Most reputable installers in Las Vegas offer:

- 1-year labor warranty - as standard

- 2-3 year labor warranty - if they are factory-certified

This covers: Window blinds falling down, brackets coming loose, uneven mounting, damage to your walls during install.

This does NOT cover: You bumping them, or your house settling and making them look crooked.

If a company only warranties the product but not the labor, you could be paying $150+ for a service call to fix a $20 part that is under warranty.

5. What Voids a Warranty in Las Vegas Specifically

Three things void almost every warranty here:

A) Sun damage is considered "normal wear." If your white faux-wood blind turns yellow after 4 years on a south-facing window, most warranties will call that environmental exposure, not a defect.

B) Improper cleaning. Using bleach, harsh chemicals, or pressure washing shutters will void it instantly. Most warranties require cleaning with just a damp cloth.

C) DIY repairs. If you try to restring a blind yourself or replace a motor from an online retailer, you void the original warranty. Always call your blinds Las Vegas product company to come out to do it themselves.

What to Ask Before You Buy.

Don't ask "Do you have a warranty?" Everyone says yes. Ask this instead:

1. "Is your lifetime warranty transferable if I sell my home?"

2. "Does your warranty cover fading and yellowing from sun exposure?"

3. "Does the motor warranty include labor to come out and replace it?"

4. "Who do I call for warranty service - you or a manufacturer hotline?"

5. "Is your labor warranty in writing?"

In Las Vegas, a strong warranty is not about how many years it says on paper. It's about whether the company that sold it to you will actually come back out to your house in August when it is 115 degrees and fix it.
